The challenge was creating a home for our clients’ elderly parents. Solutions began with a wheelchair ramp from the exterior to allow ease of access. Two interior areas of the home were significantly changed to meet the needs of the client’s father’s limited vision and her mother’s limited mobility. One area created an outside entrance, a bathroom, laundry area, and widened hallway access to the main residence. The second area created a universal bathroom by combining 2 cramped bathrooms.
Aging in place features:
- Doorways were angled and widened for accessibility. The mosaic tile adds to the overall theme, with practical floor to ceiling tile.
- Heated slip-resistant floors, curbless walk-in showers with adjustable showerheads and convenient grab bars maximize safety and comfort.
- Modern features include: “hands free” toilet/bidet, remote operated vanity faucet and a fully automated lighting system.
- Additionally, carpets were removed and hardwood floors added to increase mobility and provide effortless cleaning.
