A checklist of the things you might want to think about doing when you find out a move is in the works.

Current Home:

*Go through your house room by room: give to charity, throw out, move to new place, put everything in 3 catagories.

*Schedule pick ups for donations. Keep receipts for tax purposes.

*Begin change of address

*Save all mail for addresse labels to give to PostMaster information.

*Begin using up supplies in the house you will not move (e.g. food, detergent, )

*See Doctors and Dentists before the move. Ask for referrals for new location.

*Pick up following records to bring with you:

    Medical, prescriptions, Dental records, x-rays, school documents , eye records, vet records.

The Move:

* Decide if you are moving yourself or hiring movers.

*If moving yourself get estimates, and reserve truck. Start collecting packing materials.

*Make arrangements for storage, if needed.

*Begin making a list of all items of value (over $500) in your home and estimated replacement cost for each item.

New Home:

* Sketch a floor plan of your new home to help you decide where your furniture will go.

*Order mailing labels with your new address.

*Subscribe to local newspaper to help familiarize yourself with the new area.  Have it sent to your present home and then change address when you move to your new home.

All of these may not apply but its a good start!!!
