If you’ve ever thought, “I’m too young for a retirement community,” then there might be a solution for you – a continuing care retirement community that fully integrates people of all ages into one community. A new “Healthy Living Community” is an all-ages village that is being constructed in Liberty, Mo., and shows a progressive leap in how we should think about aging.
Action Pact (a senior housing developer), Healthy Living Centers of America (a wellness organization) and Missouri’s Liberty Hospital joined together for this exciting new development that takes into account the needs of the aging population. The community will offer a typical continuum of care including independent housing, assisted living, skilled nursing facility, memory support residences and short-term stay recovery. In addition, the community will feature a healthy living center, and retail and restaurant space that will also be open to the public.
What makes this project really special is the additional housing available to people of any age. We believe integrating younger generations and families into one community to promote healthy living at any age is a great idea. Rather than segregate seniors into a community of their own, this community allows everyone to live together, shop together, eat together and keep right on living. The potential affects a community like this would have on the aging population will be exciting to watch. There will be less of a sense of “giving up” a current lifestyle for seniors to get the care they need, and the impact of socializing/living with younger generations will surely be positive.
We look forward to seeing more communities develop based on this great plan or even a conversion of current communities into one that gives life to it’s residents.
