Purchase College in Albany now has approval to build a senior community on-campus. The college has been trying to get approval for this project for years and is looked at as a win-win situation for the college (and it’s students) and the future residents.
The community will contain up to 385 senior housing units and will be the only one its kind on a Ney York State University system campus. The housing will come in both affordable and luxury units, with the amenities and services seniors need to age in place, including medical services and food.
“We’d like to have a mixed group of people who are interested in the arts and continuing education,” Purchase College President Schwarz said. “We don’t just want people who are going to plop themselves down on campus and not be involved in the arts. But I think people who are interested in living here will kind of self-select for that.”
