10 Jobs for Retirees Who Want to Work at Home

March 1, 2018 By Mary Walton

For retirees, there are many reasons why you might want to return to the world of work. Maybe you just want a bit of extra money for a holiday later in the year.

Perhaps you’re just looking for something to do, or maybe you just want to try something new while earning a bit of cash on the side.

Whatever your reason, you can bet your bottom dollar you won’t want to return to the traditional 9-5 grind. Thankfully, you don’t have to!

Thanks to modern technology and internet, it’s now completely possible to work from the comfort of your own home, many of which you won’t even have to leave the sofa!

Not sure it’s possible? Here are ten jobs you can start today that are ideal for retirees who want to work from home!

Become a Customer Service Agent

More and more people are buying and using services online but no longer wish to call up a company in order to discuss something. Instead, more businesses are investing in live chat systems which need people to talk to customers.

There are many virtual customer assistant platforms you can sign up to, including Convergys and Arise, where you can get started straight away.

Become a Resume Writer

The job industry has never been more competitive than it is today, what with so many people and so many businesses around. With this in mind, resumes have never been more important, and more and more people are outsourcing the task to professional writers who can help them get ahead.

Retirees with a talent for writing in a way that recruiters will think ‘wow, I want this person’, check out Resumention to get started.

Become a Virtual Assistant

More and more people running their own businesses simply don’t have time to manage everything in their lives.

Whether you’re answering emails, taking phone calls or even buying your boss’s mother some flowers, a virtual assistant is a flexible hour’s job that’s ideal for organised people. Take a look at sites like Team Double-Click to get started.

Become an Editor

As you may or may not know, there is an absolute tonne of content online. From businesses and websites to non-profit organisations, businesses need content to attract people and to educate them about what they do.

However, with so much content to process, many businesses are looking for an editor to go through their content to ensure it’s perfect for their business. There is a wealth of opportunities in this industry, just take a look at UK Writings or EliteAssignmentHelp to get started.

Become a Writer

If you’ve got a knack for writing, or the willingness to learn, becoming a writer could be perfect, and the role is so universal, you’re bound to find something you like.

Whether you’re writing blogs for businesses, recipe and children’s books or even website content, try signing up to sites like Upwork or People Per Hour to see what’s available.

Become an Academic Writer

If you’ve got any experience, either personal or you’ve had a career in education, becoming an academic writer could be the perfect job for you. All you need is a computer and an internet connection, and you could be working with students around the world, helping them to complete their essays and assignments.

Some of the best places to look at Boom Essays and Essay Roo, the former of which was recently featured on the HuffingtonPost in Write My Essay article.

Sell Crafts Online

For retirees, you probably find you have more time on your hands to do the things you love. If you’ve got a passion for making crafts, such as greetings cards, jewellery or even artwork, why not try and sell it online to make a bit of extra cash? If you can produce often, why not start your own Etsy store?

Become a Tutor

If you’ve got knowledge in a certain subject, or experience in the education industry, why not use this to your advantage and become an online tutor? In this role, you’ll be able to chat, either by text chat or video, with students all over the world who want to know your what you’ve got to teach. This can be done easily using platforms like Skype, or by signing up for tutoring services like Academized.

Become an Online Reviewer

Nowadays, reviews are becoming increasingly important in everyday life. Whether you’re buying a product, a service or even going to the cinema, people love to check reviews to make sure they’re making the right decision.

As an online reviewer working for services like Revieweal or UK Top Writers, you’ll be able to use and write reviews on your experiences, helping thousands of people around the world.

Become a Translator

If you know another language fluently, either speaking or writing, there are a tonne of jobs out there, typically found on the freelancing sites Upwork and People Per Hour (listed above). You can either take content or audio, then translate it into the required language. Typically, you’ll get to work the hours you want for the price you want to work for.
