interested in ultra-cheap cell phone; call and receive phone calls only; about 30 minutes per year normal use

      Charles,

Sorry for the late reply. One of the cheapest plans I’ve found is the T-Mobile pay as you go plan. It starts at $3/month. I would probably find a phone that is T-Mobile compatible on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dmobile&field-keywords=tmobile+cell+phone+seniors), then activate it using the T-Mobile sim card when you purchase the T-Mobile plan.

Mark: I’m looking for a cell phone for my hearing impaired husband… Need loud volume. Talk to text. He will only use this phone, but he does not talk on the phone a lot. Pay as you go would be great. Any ideas?

      Trish,

There are a lot of cheaper phones out there that would be good for limited use. For instance, the Jitterbug from GreatCall, or several from companies such as Kyocera, Apple, Motorola or Samsung.

I don’t mean to sound vague, but there really are just so many choices today. If you’d like to see a list of possible options in one spot, just head over to https://www.consumercellular.com/Products?android&iphone. I don’t get anything for sending you there; I just know they specifically carry cellphones for people who are a little older and have been doing it for quite a few years.

One thing I’d look for is an easy interface (which most of those will have). Samsung has an “easy mode” that I’ve used myself and I really liked the experience.

My pleasure, Trish. Hope you find what you’re looking for.
