Safeway Step Accessible Tub Conversion

February 20, 2011 By Mark Hager

The Safeway Step ® is an affordable solution to convert your existing fiberglass, steel or cast iron bathtub into a walk-in shower. The Safeway Step is an easy way for homeowners or institutions to allow a more safe and easier-to-use shower experience, without the cost of a full accessible shower installation.

The Safeway Step combines a custom fitted product and installation process to make conventional bathtubs more accessible. The conversion process entails cutting and removing section of your existing bathtub, then covering the new opening with a custom fitted Safeway Step. The opening is approximately 24″ wide and 8″ deep, and is available in many different colors to match your bathroom.

The result of installing a Safeway Step is that your shower area will be more accessible by anyone and reduce the chance of a fall. You can have this while not having to remove and remodel your bathtub area to install a walk-in shower at a fraction of the cost. And, it can typically be installed in just one day.

Before modification

“This step is wonderful. I couldn’t get in the tub for a shower without help. Now I can do it all by myself. My husband can now have a shower without help. We are both 83 years old and can now enjoy our new step, again, it is wonderful.”
